Six Elements of Chinese Design
MS Art students were learning about the SIX ELEMENTS OF CHINESE DESIGN. These are their 'pillow-case paintings' done from home using found materials to demonstrate various design elements.
Didgeridoos & Australian Aboriginal Art
MS Art students were studying Australian Aboriginal art and ideas - and as a part of that study they told their own unique life stories on pvc and beeswax didgeridoos that they painted and learned to play together! Circular breathing is tricky!
Mosaic & Tile Designs
MS ART STUDENTS were investigating the non-representational geometric Artwork of the Islamic tradition, a response to an interpretation of the first of the 10 commandments. Students were comparing this art with the representational of the Christian tradition. These handmade ceramic tiles were a part of their investigation.
We also created tile designs using a digital compass like the work below!

Sandpainting
MS Art students were exploring the art and ideas of three cultures that share Sand-painting in common: Tamil (rangoli), Navajo, Tibetan. As a part of this exploration, students created their own sand paintings envisioning things that they judged praiseworthy as well as what they judge contemptible. Click on the links below to see some of their works. Above painting by Annie Chen.
Each year is different so that students can take art each year and experience something new. Here are some previous projects!
